Hoj Band Rocking out at Bemiss UMC

We totally had a rockin' time for a GREAT cause at the Bemiss UMC! Several worship bands from around the city and a couple groups came together to unit for Relay for Life! The people and the worship was awesome! It did make me think of my mom because she died of cancer. It felt good to sort of 'pay back' or 'give' back some of things that came so easily for my family in our time of need.

The video is out of focus because 'I-don't-know-I-fixed-before-we-started-but-my-camera-went-WHACK'! But you can hear us play. I totally tanked on the start of the third song, I was a little nervous and plus I had a brain fart! TOTALLY forgot how the song started! As the drummer I am the 'cornerstone' of the band, so when the cornerstone is out of kilter, the band is too! I was glad the third song was over! I have only been playing a few years but it has been explained to me that everyone has those moments where you just go 'BLAH!' and that night was totally a 'BLAH' moment for me! I wasn't really embarassed but it did make me want to focus more on excellence and less on my flash which as a drummer I have a tendency to do. I also have a tendency to let my tempo 'roam' a bit. I am taking things to the next level and I have heard there are speed bumps and I am not going to be perfect the whole way!

Russ is on keys+vox, Keith on Rhythm, Jimmy on bass, Cortni J , Connie, Ros and Madison are vox, and I was slamming the skins. Slammed them good or bad? You be the judge.

Thoughts

I wasn't sure how to start this blog so I just begin it now. My grandmother passed away a few weeks ago and things have not been very easy. She was a sweet woman and was in real estate for over 20 years in the local Valdosta area. I believe that she would in the top 10 women in the nation! She was fantastic! She was also firm. She was raised in the depression era in rural Alabama. Yeah she knew how to save! I remember once when she invited my wife and I for dinner earlier in our marriage, she had cooked up some corn. There was probably 10 pieces of the corn left in the serving bowl and I was surprised to hear her yell when I started to dump the corn into the trash can "Don't throw it away! That is wasteful!"

Let's just say I have learned a lesson about waste!

I could write a book on stories about my grandma. She was a dear sweet woman and I will miss her.

I said all this to say that, while this is very personal, I am calling out to my friends and church family to pray for my wife and me as not only do we deal with this huge loss but some 'issues' dealing with this loss. I can not say anything about it but please be in prayer for our family.

Fishing 3-23

I tend to enjoy fishing and it makes it ever more enjoyable when fishing with family and friends. A friend of the family Tony Porter has a pontoon boat and took myself, Ashlea, Zach (my brother) and a friend of his. We had a great time except the fish weren't biting as great as we had hoped. We caught 5 fish and dad caught 1 at the dock. While I can not file this under 'drums' or 'praise' specifically, I praise God for making a great day!

'Fireproof'

It is sorta late on this post but I have not had a great deal of time to blog lately, well blog anything! Here is the HOJ worship team rockin' out at 'The Fireproof' marriage conference on 2-27. Russ Hutto is on keys, guitars, vox, Corni J on vox, Keith Hand on rhythm guitar, Jimmy Linville on bass, and yours truly on drums. We played 'Your Love is Beautiful' by Hillsong, 'Friend of God' by Israel, 'Blessed be your Name', 'You are Beautiful" by Third Day (correct me if I am wrong on the title), 'How great is our God' I believe by Chris Tomlin or Todd Agnew, not sure.

Check it out right here:
